I am a ceramic artist based in TOKYO, JAPAN.
I like to create fragments, accidental pieces in clay reminiscent of the natural world which is ostensibly void inside the big city. A desire to hold and feel the texture in my hands has become the concept of my work.
Clay can be used with various techniques and treatments to express my inner thoughts and feelings which I find very interesting and was what attracted me to this medium. Most of my pieces are fired again and again without any use of a glaze, just using individually the raw ingredients that make a glaze layer upon layer, like making a painting.
Her work is made by manipulating the clay in different ceramic techniques, which is the most important part of her process.
The material that has been moulded by hand, by being fired in the kiln, leaving evidence of the human hands, worn textures as weathered by years long past. This she cannot obtain in any other material, as metal or paint, but clay by using fire and the forces of nature.
Excavated ancient artefacts and bone fragments, long lost pieces ftom the seabed textured by sediment, delicate and thinned by age.
At first glance, a wonderful feeling of wonder!
